LISANDRO MARTINEZ "THE ARGENTINIAN BUTCHER"

Manchester United have finally got their man and brought in the diminutive Argentinean from Johan Cruyff Arena to Old Trafford truly kickstarting the Ten Hag era. There is a nice feeling around this signing at the club that he will come really good under the stewardship of Erik Ten Hag.

Described as a ball-playing Centre Back having great composure over the ball Martinez is said to be an ideal modern defender with a south American fighting spirit capable of keeping attackers at bay. He likes going in for tackles and winning the ball for his side showcasing his warrior spirit.

He has interestingly come up against both Halland and Darwin Nunez the two other newcomers in the Premier League while playing for Ajax against Borussia and Benfica. It wasn't a bad showcasing of his talents at all. He went toe to toe with Nunez for a ball, leaving him eating grass on the turf. Halland tried to go past him by himself but he won the ball fair and square and squared it to a teammate calmly.

Manchester United have viable options on centre back but Martinez is an upgrade on all of them. He's left-footed so can play on the left side of the defence partnering up with Varane, Maguire, Lindelof or even Bailey. Ten Hag has already indicated Maguire is not guaranteed to start every game and I genuinely think it will be difficult for him to play high line because of his pace. Another great thing about Martinez is his versatility as he can be employed as a left-back and as a defensive midfielder.

The money United paid for him is a bit more than his market transfer value but he's young has time on his side and can turn out to be a defensively rock United have been looking for after the departure of Vidic and Ferdinand. Also, it remains to be seen how he'll cope with the physical demands of the Premiership as it's a few levels above the Eredivisie, but the signs are really promising that he'll come up good. Fingers crossed for this one but the United faithful feel like they got their man in defence
